First residents move into Heald Farm Court
A couple born and bred in Earlestown, Newton-le-Willows, are celebrating, along with their son Ian, becoming the very first family to move into Heald Farm Court.
Barbara Jones, 74, and her husband Tom, 77, had reached a stage in their lives where they needed to look at their long term future. When the Jones' initially viewed Heald Farm Court they were unsure if they would be eligible to purchase a shared ownership apartment on the development because their 46 year old son Ian still lived with them as he has learning difficulties.
Their capital was tied up in their present home but moving to Heald Farm Court, a development from Helena Living, on a shared equity scheme has enabled the couple to set up a trust fund for Ian who attends Greenacres Day Centre.
Speaking from the development Barbara said "It has been a major decision for us to consider selling the family home. Tom is not a well man with heart problems and osteoporosis and I always have the fear of him taking ill, at some unearthly hour, when I also have Ian to attend to. Nineteen years ago when Tom had his first major heart attack, I found myself in the situation where I needed to be at Tom's bedside at hospital as the prognosis was not good.
"It was a devastating time with both of my family needing me, but I feel that with the decision to move to Heald Farm Court, I will not be put into this situation again, as help will always be at hand for any one of us. I am confident that as a couple in our 70s we have made the right move at the right time.
"We have definitely found what we're looking for at Heald Farm Court. Ian can now continue with the lifestyle he knows and enjoys without any disruption and I am eternally grateful to Helena and MHA for allowing us to bring our son with us. We are looking forward to living in such a wonderful place with many happy years to come."
Developed by Helena Living with St Helens Council, and helped by a Department of Health grant the facility is managed by MHA Care Group. The £14m Heald Farm Court extra care development offers residents independent living, combined with access to 24 hour care and support, as and when they need it.
The Jones' are hoping to move into their stylish two bedroom apartment at the end of October and are pictured in the show apartment with Heald Farm Court Sales Advisor, Jackie Martin.
The development is now fully open and the apartments are available to view. For more information call Jackie on 0800 111 4424.
